If things work out right, Stephen will be getting more fans on Asia as Kamen Rider’s rights have been sold to Cartoon Network.

Dragon Knight spreads its wings

Tokyo-headquartered studio Adness Entertainment has licensed live-action series Kamen Rider Dragon Knight to Cartoon Network in Asia and Australia.

The 40×30′ kids show is due to launch to international audiences this year. It has already been picked up by Cartoon Network Latin America and by broadcasters in a string of other territories including the US, Germany and Italy.

The latest deal will mean that the series also airs on Cartoon Network in Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight follows the adventures of a teenage boy who finds a mysterious card that turns him into a powerful warrior in another dimension.

The series is based on hit children’s series Kamen Rider Ryuki, produced by Toei Company in 2002 for Japanese TV channel MBS. The franchise, however, dates back to 1971 and remains one of Japan’s most popular, spawning some 20 TV series and movies. The Adness version is a US update, produced out of the firm’s Tokyo studio but driven by its Los Angeles office.
